Our History

A Century of
Faithfulness

Since 1927, Temple Baptist Church has been part of Sullivan, Missouri's story. Through changing generations, one thing has remained at the center  - God's faithfulness.

1924 - 1927

A Church Is Born

In 1924, a small group of believers began meeting in the Rethmeyer home.
In 1925, the group moved to the Odd Fellows Hall, where they gathered for the next 10 years. In 1927, they officially established Temple Baptist Church.

1935 - 1960

Building A Foundation

As the church grew, so did the need for space. The church acquired its first property for $250 and built an initial building with a basement. In 1949, they rebuilt the building and veneered it with brick. They added an education space in 1954 and a new auditorium in 1960.

1992 - 2018

Making Room For Ministry

We finished construction of the new fellowship hall, office suite, classroom space, and auditorium renovation in 1992. In 2012, we completed the new Education Building, which expanded space for children, students, and adult education.

1919 - Present

Today, Temple Baptist Church is a vibrant, multi-generational church family committed to sharing Jesus, making disciples, and equipping believers. We are grateful for those who came before us and are excited for what God will continue to do through our church in the years ahead.
